You Are NOT the Same
Matthew 9:14-17
1. Rejoicing is the Proper Response to Salvation! (Vs. 14-15, Luke 15:10)
Luke 15:10, “I tell you, in the same way, there is joy in the presence of God’s angels over one sinner who repents.”
2. Salvation Comes:
a) Not as a Fix of a Broken and Insufficient Recipient. (Vs. 16, Gal 3:10)
Galatians 3:10-11, “For all who rely on the works of the law are under a curse, because it is written, Everyone who does not do everything written in the book of the law is cursed. Now it is clear that no one is justified before God by the law, because the righteous will live by faith.”
Romans 6:6, “For we know that our old self, was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be rendered powerless so that we may no longer be enslaved to sin”
b) Not as a Fix of a Broken and Insufficient Religion. (Vs. 17a, Rom 8:8, Gal 5:4)
Romans 8:7-8, “The mind-set of the flesh is hostile to God because it does not submit to God’s law. Indeed, it is unable to do so. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.”
Galatians 5:4, “You who are trying to be justified by the law are alienated from Christ; you have fallen from grace.”
c) With THE Brand-New Way to Bring a Brand-New Reality! (Vs. 17b, 2 Cor 5:17, Rom 6:6-11)
2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, and see, the new has come!”
Romans 6:6-11, “For we know that our old self, was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be rendered powerless so that we may no longer be enslaved to sin, since a person who has died is freed from sin. Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him, because we know that Christ, having been raised from the dead, will not die again. Death no longer rules over him. For the death he died, he died to sin once for all time; but the life he lives, he lives to God. So, you too consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.”
