A Different Life
2 Timothy 3:10-17
1. The Church of God Must Live Differently in Christ… (Vs. 10-13, 2 Cor 6:15-18)
a. 2 Corinthians 6:15-18, “What agreement does Christ have with Belial? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? And what agreement does the temple of God have with idols? For we are the temple of the living God, as God said: I will dwell and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people. Therefore, come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord; do not touch any unclean thing, and I will welcome you. And I will be a Father to you, and you will be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty
2. We Accomplish and Understand This Through the Study of God’s Word… (Vs. 14-15, Acts 4:12, Psa 119:11, Acts 17:11)
a. Acts 4:12, “There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to people by which we must be saved.””
b. Psalm 119:11, “I have treasured your word in my heart so that I may not sin against you.”
c. Acts 17:11, “The people here were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, since they received the word with eagerness and examined the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.”
3. And We Study God’s Word to Be Ready and Be Sent! (Vs. 16-17; 1 Pet 1:14-16, 3:14-16; Matt 10:16-20)
a. 1 Peter 1:14-16, “As obedient children, do not be conformed to the desires of your former ignorance. But as the one who called you is holy, you also are to be holy in all your conduct; for it is written, “Be holy, because I am holy.”
b. 1 Peter 3:14-16, “But even if you should suffer for righteousness, you are blessed. Do not fear them, or be intimidated, but in your hearts regard Christ the Lord as holy, ready at any time to give a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you. Yet do this with gentleness and reverence, keeping a clear conscience, so that when you are accused, those who disparage your good conduct in Christ will be put to shame.”
c. Matthew 10:16-20, ““Look, I’m sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as serpents and as innocent as doves. Beware of them, because they will hand you over to local courts and flog you in their synagogues. You will even be brought before governors and kings because of me, to bear witness to them and to the Gentiles. But when they hand you over, don’t worry about how or what you are to speak. For you will be given what to say at that hour, because it isn’t you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father is speaking through you.”
