Praying Like Jesus
Matthew 26:36-46
1. Jesus Prayed Honestly. (Vs. 36-39, Psa 62:8, Matt 6:7-8)
a. Psalm 62:8, “Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts before him. God is our refuge.”
b. Matthew 6:7-8, “When you pray, don’t babble like the Gentiles, since they imagine they’ll be heard for their many words. Don’t be like them, because your Father knows the things you need before you ask him.”
2. Jesus Prayed Humbly. (Vs. 40-43, Dan 10:12, Isa 25:1, Matt 6:10)
a. Daniel 10:12, “Don’t be afraid, Daniel,” he said to me, “for from the first day that you purposed to understand and to humble yourself before your God, your prayers were heard. I have come because of your prayers.”
b. Isaiah 25:1, “Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you. I will praise your name, for you have accomplished wonders, plans formed long ago, with perfect faithfulness.”
c. Matthew 6:10, “Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
3. Jesus Prayed Repeatedly. (Vs. 44-46, 1 Thess 5:16-18, Matt 7:7-12)
a. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, “Rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in everything; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
b. Matthew 7:7-12, ““Ask, and it will be given to you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. Who among you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him. Therefore, whatever you want others to do for you, do also the same for them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.”
