Flip or Flop?
Matthew 9:9-13
1. The Call from Jesus is Based Upon Need, Not Upon Standing. (Vs. 9-11, Ecc 7:20, Rom 3:9, Acts 15:9, Jas 2:1-4)
Ecclesiastes 7:20, “There is certainly no one righteous on the earth who does good and never sins.”
Romans 3:9, “What then? Are we any better off? Not at all! For we have already charged that both Jews and Gentiles, are all under sin,”
Acts 15:9, “He made no distinction between us and them, cleansing their hearts by faith.”
James 2:1-4, “My brothers and sisters, do not show favoritism as you hold on to the faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ. For if someone comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and dressed in fine clothes, and a poor person dressed in filthy clothes also comes in, if you look with favor on the one wearing the fine clothes and say, “Sit here in a good place,” and yet you say to the poor person, “Stand over there,” or “Sit here on the floor by my footstool,” haven’t you made distinctions among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?”
2. The Purpose of the Call from Jesus is Based Upon Need, Not Upon Looks. (Vs. 12-13, Matt 23:27-28, Mark 7:6-7,
Matthew 23:27-28, ““Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which appear beautiful on the outside, but inside are full of the bones of the dead and every kind of impurity. In the same way, on the outside you seem righteous to people, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.”
Mark 7:6-7, “He answered them, “Isaiah prophesied correctly about you hypocrites, as it is written: This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. They worship me in vain, teaching as doctrines human commands.”
Titus 2:11, “For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people.”
Acts 4:12, “There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to people by which we must be saved”
