Be Like Jesus
1. Judas Was a Friend in Name Only. (Matthew 26:47-50)
2. The Disciples Were Friends Transformed.
a. They Started Sincerely. (Matthew 26:51)
b. They Became Confused and Short-Sighted. (Matthew 26:51b-52, Luke 22:49-50)
Luke 22:49-50, When those around him saw what was going to happen, they asked, “Lord, should we strike with the sword?” Then one of them struck the high priest’s servant and cut off his right ear.
c. They Failed Magnificently. (Matthew 26:56b)
d. They Ended Exquisitely. (Acts 5:40-42)
Acts 5:40-42, After they called in the apostles and had them flogged, they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus and released them. Then they went out from the presence of the Sanhedrin, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to be treated shamefully on behalf of the Name. Every day in the temple, and in various homes, they continued teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Messiah.
3. Jesus is a Friend to All.
a. Judas. (Matthew 26:50)
b. The Mob. (Matthew 26:52, 55-56, Luke 22:51)
Luke 22:51, But Jesus responded, “No more of this!” And touching his ear, he healed him.
c. The Disciples. (Matthew 26:47, 52a, 1 John 4:19)
1 John 4:19, We love because he first loved us.
d. The Father. (Matthew 26:54, 56)
