He Is Risen
Mark 15:33-39, 16:1-7
1. Jesus’ Death:
a. Demonstrated the Consequences of Sin. (Vs. 33-34, Psa 5:4-6)
i. Psalm 5:4-6, “For you are not a God who delights in wickedness; evil cannot dwell with you. The boastful cannot stand in your sight; you hate all evildoers. You destroy those who tell lies; the Lord abhors violent and treacherous people.”
b. Opened THE Pathway to God. (Vs. 38, 2 Pet 2:9-10)
i. 2 Peter 2:9-10, “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his possession, so that you may proclaim the praises, of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.”
c. Proved He Was/Is No Ordinary Man. (Vs. 39, 1 John 3:16)
i. 1 John 3:16, “This is how we have come to know love: He laid down his life for us.”
2. Jesus’ Resurrection:
a. Was Announced from Heaven. (vs. 1-6, Matt 28:1-2)
i. Matthew 28:1-2, “After the Sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to view the tomb. There was a violent earthquake, because an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and approached the tomb. He rolled back the stone and was sitting on it.”
b. Proved He Is Unique. (Vs. 6b; 1 Cor 15:3-6, 56-57)
i. 1 Corinthians 15:3-6, “For I passed on to you as most important what I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the Twelve. Then he appeared to over five hundred brothers and sisters at one time; most of them are still alive, but some have fallen asleep.”
ii. 1 Corinthians 15:56-57, “The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!”
c. Provides US the Opportunity to “See Him”. (Vs. 7, Rom 10:8-13)
i. Romans 10:8-13, “This is the message of faith that we proclaim: If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. One believes with the heart, resulting in righteousness, and one confesses with the mouth, resulting in salvation. For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes on him will not be put to shame,” since there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, because the same Lord of all richly blesses all who call on him. For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
