1 Peter 1:1-2
1. This Letter was Written to Christians: (1 Peter 1:1)
a. Living in Difficult Situations. (1 Peter 1:1b, John 16:33)
John 16:33, I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world.
b. Founded by the Will and Work of God. (1 Peter 1:1a, 2 Thessalonians 2:13)
2 Thessalonians 2:13, But we ought to thank God always for you, brothers and sisters loved by the Lord, because from the beginning God has chosen you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and through belief in the truth.
2. Who Were Saved:
a. By the Eternal Plan and Knowledge of the Father. (1 Peter 1:2a, 1 John 4:9, Galatians 4:4-5)
1 John 4:9, God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his one and only Son into the world so that we might live through him.
Galatians 4:4-5, When the time came to completion, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.
b. Through the Redemption and Purification of the Spirit. (1 Peter 1:2b, John 16:7-8)
John 16:7-8, It is for your benefit that I go away, because if I don’t go away the Counselor will not come to you. If I go, I will send him to you. When he comes, he will convict the world about sin, righteousness, and judgment
c. Through Obedience (Faith in Action) and the Blood of Jesus Christ. (1 Peter 1:2c, Acts 2:38)
Acts 2:38, Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
3. Grace and Peace Be with You. (1 Peter 1:2d, Jeremiah 29:11)
Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you”—this is the Lord’s declaration—“plans for your well-being, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”
