Movin’ on Up
1 Peter 1:3-9
1) What the Father Has Given Us:
a) New Life. (1 Peter 1:3, John 3:3, 5)
John 3:3, 5, Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, unless someone is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”… “Truly I tell you, unless someone is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.”
b) A Living Hope of Perfect Inheritance. (1 Peter 1:3-4, Ephesians 1:13-14)
Ephesians 1:13-14, In him you also were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and when you believed. The Holy Spirit is the down payment of our inheritance, until the redemption of the possession, to the praise of his glory.
c) Active Armor with a Responsibility to “Exercise” [your faith]. (1 Peter 1:5,
2 Corinthians 1:21-22)
2 Corinthians 1:21-22, Now it is God who strengthens us together with you in Christ, and who has anointed us. He has also put his seal on us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a down payment.
2) What the Father Will Give Us:
a) The Finalization of Our Salvation! (1 Peter 1:5b, 8-9, John 14:2-3)
John 14:2-3, In my Father’s house are many rooms; if not, I would have told you. I am going away to prepare a place for you. If I go away and prepare a place for you, I will come again and take you to myself, so that where I am you may be also.
b) A Refined Faith That Glorifies Him. (1 Peter 1:7, James 1:2-4, Romans 5:2-5)
James 1:2-4, Consider it a great joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you experience various trials, because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its full effect, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking nothing.
Romans 5:2-3, We have also obtained access through him by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. And not only that, but we also rejoice in our afflictions, because we know that affliction produces endurance, endurance produces proven character, and proven character produces hope. This hope will not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
