The Great Day of Salvation!
1 Peter 1:10-12
1. God’s Foretelling of Salvation Was Given by God.
a. The Message: Grace Will Come. (1 Peter 1:10, 2 Samuel 23:2, Genesis 22:18)
2 Samuel 23:2, The Spirit of the LORD spoke through me, his word was on my tongue.
Genesis 22:18, And all the nations of the earth will be blessed by your offspring because you have obeyed my command.
b. The Response: Searched and Investigated with Anticipation. (1 Peter 1:11, Daniel 12:8)
Daniel 12:8, I heard but did not understand. So I asked, “My lord, what will be the outcome of these things?”
2. History Confirms the Foretelling:
a. Of the Sufferings of Jesus. (1 Peter 1:11b, Luke 24:25-27)
Luke 24:25-27, He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Wasn’t it necessary for the Messiah to suffer these things and enter into his glory?” Then beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted for them the things concerning himself in all the Scriptures.
b. Of the Glories of Jesus. (1 Peter 1:11b, 2 Peter 1:17, 1 Timothy 3:16)
2 Peter 1:17, For he received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased!”
1 Timothy 3:16, And most certainly, the mystery of godliness is great: He was manifested in the flesh, vindicated in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory.
3. The Prophets and Angels Both Yearned for This Day! (1 Peter 1:12; Luke 10:24, 15:10; Revelation 5:11-12)
Luke 10:23-24, Then turning to his disciples [Jesus] said privately, “Blessed are the eyes that see the things you see! For I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see the things you see but didn’t see them; to hear the things you hear but didn’t hear them.
Luke 15:10, I tell you, in the same way, there is joy in the presence of God’s angels over one sinner who repents.
Revelation 5:11-12, Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels around the throne, and also of the living creatures and of the elders. Their number was countless thousands, plus thousands of thousands. They said with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb who was slaughtered to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing!
