More Than a Son
Matthew 22:41-44
1. The Messiah Comes from the Line of David. (Matthew 22:41-42, Matthew 1:1, Isaiah 11:1)
Matthew 1:1, An account of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham:
Isaiah 11:1, Then a shoot will grow from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots will bear fruit.
2. The Messiah is more than David’s Son, He is from God. (Matthew 22:43-44a, Matthew 3:17, Jeremiah 23:5-6)
Matthew 3:17, And a voice from heaven said: “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased.”
Jeremiah 23:5-6, “Look, the days are coming”—this is the LORD’s declaration— “when I will raise up a Righteous Branch for David. He will reign wisely as king and administer justice and righteousness in the land. In his days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely. This is the name he will be called: The LORD Is Our Righteousness.”
3. Scripture Teaches that The Divine Son of David Reigns Eternal. (Matthew 22:44b-46; Luke 1:32-33; 2 Samuel 7:12-13; Revelation 22:16, 19:6-8)
Luke 1:32-33, He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of his father David. He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and his kingdom will have no end.
Revelation 22:16, I, Jesus, have sent my angel to attest these things to you for the churches. I am the root and descendant of David, the bright morning star.
Revelation 19:6-8, Then I heard something like the voice of a vast multitude, like the sound of cascading waters, and like the rumbling of loud thunder, saying, Hallelujah, because our Lord God, the Almighty, reigns! Let us be glad, rejoice, and give him glory, because the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his bride has prepared herself. She was given fine linen to wear, bright and pure. For the fine linen represents the righteous acts of the saints.
