Get Out of the Boat!
Matthew 14:22-33
1. Apart from Jesus There Is Fear. (Matthew 14:22-26, 2 Timothy 1:7)
2 Timothy 1:7, For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but one of power, love, and sound judgment.
2. Upon the Call of the Great I AM, Step Out in Faith! (Matthew 14:27-29, Exodus 3:14)
Exodus 3:14, God replied to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM., This is what you are to say to the Israelites: I AM has sent me to you.”
3. Worship the Son of God! (Matthew 14:30-33)
a. He Saves when We Fall. (Matthew 14:30, James 3:1-2)
James 3:1-2, Not many should become teachers, my brothers, because you know that we will receive a stricter judgment. For we all stumble in many ways. If anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is mature, able also to control the whole body.
b. He Saves when We Call. (Matthew 14:31a, Matthew 20:29-34)
Matthew 20:29-34, As they were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him. There were two blind men sitting by the road. When they heard that Jesus was passing by, they cried out, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!” The crowd demanded that they keep quiet, but they cried out all the more, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!” Jesus stopped, called them, and said, “What do you want me to do for you?” “Lord,” they said to him, “open our eyes.” Moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes. Immediately they could see, and they followed him.
c. He is Faithful Even when our Faith Falters. (Matthew 14:31b-32)
d. Faith Increases Through Experience. (Matthew 14:33, Psalm 106:11-12)
Psalm 106:11-12, [Speaking of the Israelites leaving Egypt] Water covered their foes; not one of them remained. Then they believed his promises and sang his praise.
