1 Peter 5:5b-9
1. The Day is Approaching; “Put On” Humility. (Vs. 5b-6, Psa 32:4, Deut 9:26)
a. Psalm 32:4, “For day and night your hand was heavy on me; my strength was drained as in the summer’s heat.”
b. Deuteronomy 9:26, “I prayed to the LORD: Lord God, do not annihilate your people, your inheritance, whom you redeemed through your greatness and brought out of Egypt with a strong hand.”
2. The Devil is Approaching, Trust God with Care. (Vs. 7-9)
a. John 14:30, “I will not talk with you much longer, because the ruler of the world is coming. He has no power over me.”
b. Luke 22:31, “Simon, Simon, look out. Satan has asked to sift you like wheat.”
c. Revelation 12:10, “Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say, The salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have now come, because the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been thrown down.”
d. 2 Timothy 2:26, “Then they may come to their senses and escape the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.”
e. Matthew 10:29-31, “Aren’t two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father’s consent. But even the hairs of your head have all been counted. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”
f. James 4:7-8, “Therefore, submit to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”
g. 1 Corinthians 10:13, “No temptation has come upon you except what is common to humanity. But God is faithful; he will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation he will also provide the way out so that you may be able to bear it.”
