The Greatest Fear
Joshua 7-8
2. Consecrate Yourself. (Vs. 13-15, Heb 10:19-23)
a. Hebrews 10:19-23, “Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have boldness to enter the sanctuary through the blood of Jesus—he has inaugurated for us a new and living way through the curtain (that is, through his flesh)—and since we have a great high priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed in pure water. Let us hold on to the confession of our hope without wavering, since he who promised is faithful.”
3. Turn to God (Repent) at Any Cost. (Vs. 16-26; Prov 8:13, 28:26; Matt 5:29-30; Mark 10:21-22)
a. Proverbs 8:13, “To fear the LORD is to hate evil. I hate arrogant pride, evil conduct, and perverse speech.”
b. Proverbs 28:26, “The one who trusts in himself is a fool, but one who walks in wisdom will be safe.”
c. Matthew 5:29-30, “If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of the parts of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of the parts of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.”
d. Mark 10:21-22, “Looking at him, Jesus loved him and said to him, “You lack one thing: Go, sell all you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” But he was dismayed by this demand, and he went away grieving, because he had many possessions.”
