Living a Thankful Life
Colossians 3:12-17
1. To Live Thankfully, Be at Peace with God and Others. (Vs. 12-15, Phil 4:4-7, Rom 12:17-18)
a. Philippians 4:4-7, “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your graciousness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”
b. Romans 12:17-18, “Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Give careful thought to do what is honorable in everyone’s eyes. If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.”
2. To Live Thankfully, Let God and His Word Rule in Everything. (Vs. 16-17; 2 Tim 3:16-17, 2:21)
a. 2 Timothy 3:16-17, “All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”
b. 2 Timothy 2:21, “So if anyone purifies himself from anything dishonorable, he will be a special instrument, set apart, useful to the Master, prepared for every good work.”
3. Live Thankfully and Give Thanks! (Vs. 15b, 17b; Eph 5:3-4, Psalm 106:1, 138:1)
a. Ephesians 5:3-4, “But sexual immorality and any impurity or greed should not even be heard of among you, as is proper for saints. Obscene and foolish talking or crude joking are not suitable, but rather giving thanks.”
b. Psalm 106:1, “Hallelujah! Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his faithful love endures forever.”
c. Psalm 138:1, “I will give you thanks with all my heart.”
